“You’re stretched and encouraged, and achieve more than you thought you ever could. Exhilarating!”
– 2018 Brass Ensemble member

Alongside work with the two orchestras (see their pages for specific pieces) brass players will have the chance to learn and perform brass ensemble repertoire, again guided by our team of professional and highly experienced tutors.

The Ensembles Concert on the Thursday evening will showcase some of the works rehearsed during the week, while the final orchestral concerts on the Friday will, of course, include plenty for the brass players as well!

The varied brass repertoire for 2019 included the following works, and suggestions for pieces from members are very welcome.

  • Robert Spearing – Commedia dell’Arte
  • Mussorgsky, arr. Elgar Howarth – Pictures at an Exhibition
  • Britten – Russian Funeral Music
  • Samuel Barber – Mutations

As with the other ensembles brass players will also have the opportunity to participate in further open sessions. This is a tremendous chance to work on a wide variety of repertoire on one course!
