“Highlight of the week was the quality of the tuition. I learned a lot and felt comfortable with the repertoire.”

“You’re stretched and encouraged, and achieve more than you thought you ever could. Exhilarating!”
– 2018 Brass Ensemble member
Alongside work with the two orchestras (see their pages for specific pieces) horns and brass players will have the chance to learn and perform as a brass ensemble, guided by our team of professional and highly experienced tutors.
The Ensembles Concert will showcase some of the works rehearsed during the week, while the final orchestral concerts will, of course, include plenty for the brass players as well.
Positions within the various pieces being rehearsed in both the ensemble and the orchestras will be allocated in discussion with the brass tutors early in the week, to try to provide a good balance for all members.
The varied brass repertoire for 2022 will include the following works, and suggestions for pieces from members are very welcome.
- Britten – Russian Funeral Music
- Samuel Barber – Mutations from Bach
- Bach – Brandenburg Concerto no.3
[These pieces/arrangements are believed to be in copyright and so unfortunately not available online for private study]
The standard for the course is Grade 7 or higher, and places are limited to 8 horns, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, and tuba.
As with the other ensembles, brass players will have the opportunity to participate in further open sessions. This is a tremendous chance to work on a wide variety of repertoire on one course.
